Paddy Pimblett and Bernardo Silva

Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett expressed his desire to fight Manchester City and Portugal’s Bernardo Silva in the UFC octagon. Pimblett, a devoted Liverpool fan, has built up a notable reputation in MMA at Cage Warriors before making the move to the UFC in 2021. The 27-year-old British athlete has had three Matches in Dana White’s organization and remains unbeaten in the UFC. Pimblett has become a prominent figure in Mixed Martial Arts scene.

Pimblett will be entering the octagon on Saturday, ready to take on Jared Gordon at UFC 282 in Las Vegas. Away from the ring, the UFC fighter from Liverpool is a staunch fan of the Reds, and is not too fond of Manchester’s Premier League teams.

On Pub Talk, he said the following to Ray Parlour and Alan Brazil: “Last season, when he first got signed, it was Bruno Fernandes, ’cause of how overrated he was. But now, it’s Bernardo Silva, lad. I don’t know anyone who likes Bernardo Silva, lad. He’s an unbelievable footballer. He’s a proper baller. But he’s a horrible wrong’un. He’s a piece of s**t,”.

Bernardo Silva is one of the most intelligent footballers of his generation; he proved it once again in Portugal’s R-16 match against Switzerland

Bernardo Silva

The 21-year-old forward, Goncalo Ramos, earned his first cap for Portugal last month and put them ahead in the 17th minute with a precise shot from a difficult angle. Interestingly, midfielder Bernardo Silva did not join the other players in their jubilation and instead stayed in the corner of the field. Observant admirers discovered Silva’s purpose for the substitution; to avoid a goal.

This was due to the possibility that the opposite team could restart the game if all ten outfield players had departed the pitch. Back in Russia in 2016, Kieran Trippier pulled a similar move when Harry Kane netted the winning goal for England against Tunisia. The same loophole in the rules caused players to believe that if all the outfield players were out of the field, their opponents could initiate play and potentially score a goal.

FIFA has negated this concept, and Law 8 explicitly mentions that “All players, except the one performing the kick-off, must be in their own side of the playing field.” This means Silva was allowed to take part in the festivities without worrying about Switzerland having a re-start.
