Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel gave supporters an honest update on midfielder N’Golo Kante’s future, with a lot of reports suggesting a summer transfer away from Stamford Bridge. When questioned regarding his ace midfielder’s future following his team’s 1-1 stalemate with Leicester, the German coach responded:

“I think he’s our key, key player,” he stated as per the Football London. “But the key, key players have to be on the pitch, and he only plays 40% of games.” “He is our Van Dijk, is our Mo Salah, Kylian Mbappe, he is our Neymar.

Thomas Tuchel continued to compliment Kante after being questioned because he’s one of his team’s greatest players.

“I can only repeat myself. He can make the difference but he can only make the difference on the pitch and at the top level, this is our target for him. He is one of the very best midfielders in the world. Because he is not in the spotlight, he is even more important to the team. He has the mentality of a water carrier and this makes the difference. Big teams need this. It’s why everyone loves to play with him,” he added.

The contract of the French midfielder is set to end in the summer of 2023, making next season his final in west London. The 31-year-old has lifted every major trophy possible during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, with the exception of the Carabao Cup, which he has yet to win.

Kante joined the London side back in 2016 from Leicester City and has made 218 appearances for the Blues scoring 12 goals and assisting 18 times. Chelsea will certainly not want the 30-year-old to leave the club as he has been the best player for the Blues since joining them.
