This week, Son Heung-Min experienced a sudden reduction in his age. This was because South Korea, his home country, officially abandoned its unique traditional approach to determining citizens’ ages. On Wednesday, a law that was enacted in December, eliminating the “Korean” method of calculating an individual’s age, finally took effect.
Under that system, the babies during their birth are considered one year old and the first day of every year, a year is added to their age regardless of their birthday. Thus, a baby born in 31st December could be two years old the next day.
Therefore this week, the country has finally stopped this bizarre exercise of counting the age. This helps in the international level as the discrepancies in both the systems caused a lot of confusion worldwide. However, this does not affect Tottenham Hotspur much.
Son Heung Min’s age will decrease by a year but it won’t affect his employers. Tottenham is required to submit the verified date of birth of their players to the Premier League and not their age. As the date of birth will remain the same, it will cause no changes to the club.
Tottenham sign James Maddison from Leicester to add more creativity for Harry Kane and Son Heung Min
On Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur finalized the signing of James Maddison, after he was relegated to the Championship with Leicester City. Maddison has committed to a five-year contract. He is the third signing of the summer for the club under their new coach, Ange Postecoglou.
The acquisition of Maddison is seen as a significant achievement for Spurs, as they have been admirers of the 26-year-old player for quite some time. Maddison’s transfer comes after a successful stint of five years with Leicester City, where he played a key role in their triumph in the FA Cup in 2021.
Throughout his tenure at Leicester, Maddison played in 203 matches, scoring 55 goals, and providing 41 assists. Despite Leicester’s unexpected relegation to the Championship last season, Maddison managed to score 10 goals and provide 9 assists.
