“He’s interested in our opinion”- Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos reveals the thing that separates Carlo Ancelotti from the rest of the managers

Real Madrid’s star Toni Kroos recently revealed he had a part to play over who Real Madrid should bring off the bench to inspire their incredible comeback against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final. He admitted while speaking to DAZN that he helped Carlo Ancelotti choose who should come off the bench.

Kroos hinted that while other managers follow their instinct during tense situations, Ancelotti listened to his opinions and executed the plan, a thing that he believes separates him from the rest of the managers.

“The coach himself had a few doubts about who he would bring on and who not to bring on. We have all seen a few football games ourselves. That allows you to exchange ideas a bit,” said Kroos.

“That describes him really well and why things always work well with the team. It’s outstanding. In the end, he decides, but of course, he’s interested in our opinion,” added the German player.

Manchester City took the lead just five minutes later, and Ancelotti had some big calls to make with his side needing two goals in 17 minutes plus stoppage time to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

The German midfielder was the first player to be hooked off by Carlo Ancelotti with 22 minutes of the game left to play, with Brazilian forward Rodrygo coming on in his place.

Two goals from Rodrygo and a winning penalty by Karim Benzema in the first half of extra time ensured that the competition’s most successful club is going to Paris at the expense of Manchester City. Ancelotti also brought in the likes of Camavinga, Asensio, and Ceballos, who all contributed to Real Madrid’s win.

As Kroos pointed out, this is another instance of Ancelotti doing things differently. While most managerial styles in modern football are much more hierarchical, it can be witnessed that Carlo Ancelotti has a much closer approach and even more democratic style than many of his peers.
