How did Eden Hazard help Chelsea win £15 million despite playing only 83 minutes in the UCL?

Eden Hazard may not have captured the hearts of Real Madrid supporters during his time there, but he is the gift that keeps on giving for Chelsea. Hazard’s success in the Champions League with Los Blancos following their 1-0 upset of Liverpool in Paris on Saturday evening is expected to bring the Blues a £15 million reward.

Hazard’s salary is owing to a provision in his contract, which he signed when he joined Real Madrid for £103 million in 2019, which contained performance-related add-ons.

Real Madrid must be resentful at having to cough out the cash since Hazard receives a winner’s medal despite just playing 83 minutes during the campaign.

Chelsea is still getting benefitted after Eden Hazard’s departure

Eden Hazard getting injured

The Belgian has only made three cameos in the club’s Champions League campaign, and his most recent outing was in the last-16 first-leg defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in February. He was barely on for around eight minutes.

Hazard had previously played nine minutes in Real’s 2-0 win against Inter in the last group game. He only appeared in one game, a 2-1 home defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol in September of last year. Hazard was an unused replacement in the final, watching from the bench as Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr netted the game-winning goal in the second half.

Hazard’s Real Madrid tenure has been a complete disaster, with the 31-year-old devoting much of his time on the sidelines due to injuries. Hazard has only made 66 appearances for the club in three years and has only scored six goals. Chelsea’s current owners, led by Todd Boehly, will be delighted with the windfall news since they have pledged to invest in the team this summer.
