“I am devastated”- Thomas Tuchel breaks silence after getting sacked as Chelsea manager

Following a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the inaugural Champions League group stage matchup the previous day, the German manager Thomas Tuchel was fired from his position at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Chelsea have had a dismal start to the season after spending £271 million on a variety of new players, and new owner Todd Boehly made the choice to fire Tuchel and name Graham Potter as his replacement on a five-year contract.
Four days after the announcement, Tuchel sent a message on his social media pages saying that while he is “devastated” about leaving his position, he was “honoured” to manage the team and lead them to a Champions League victory last year.

Over transfer policy, Tuchel’s relationship with the new owners appeared to deteriorate, and he is now eligible to collect £13 million in compensation. Additionally, Chelsea paid Brighton a record amount of £22 million to hire highly regarded Potter and his coaching staff.

Thomas Tuchel wrote: “This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end.

“This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever. I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

After being released by Paris Saint-Germain, Tuchel returned to management early by taking over at Chelsea in January 2021. After beating Manchester City in an all-English final in Porto a few months later, he led the team to their second Champions League victory. They then went on to win the Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
