“I called him s***” – Tottenham’s Richarlison supports Real Madrid compatriot Vinicius Jr after racial slur incident

After Pedro Bravo used a racial slur to describe Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr. for his celebratory dance, Richarlison texted Bravo an expletive. After his team’s 6-2 thrashing of Leicester on Saturday, the Spurs forward disclosed the message he sent the Spanish football agent, claiming to have called Bravo a “s***” for his racial abuse of the former Everton man’s compatriots.

Tottenham's Richarlison & Vinicius

On the contentious El Chiringuito TV show following Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory against Mallorca, Bravo, the president of the Spanish Agents Association, advised Vinicius Jr. to “stop playing the monkey” before later backtracking.

Richarlison told ESPN after Saturday’s match: “Boring situation, right? I even texted that guy over there who talked bullshit to him on the show. But that he can have fun like he’s been doing and I’ll hope he scores a goal. I called him a s***… but that he can solve this as soon as possible and don’t miss it.

Three months have passed since an alleged altercation between the two during an international training session as Brazil prepared for a friendly match against Japan before the bold display of support for his compatriot. A violent exchange between the strikers was captured on camera, and senior team players Neymar and Dani Alves rushed to break it up.

And although it’s not obvious if there’s any animosity between the two of them, Richarlison’s remarks show that some things are more significant than any past differences between them. Last Sunday, after scoring the second goal in Real’s 4-1 comeback victory over Mallorca at home, Vinicius performed his now-perfected dance routine on the corner flag, which strangely received criticism from Bravo.
