Just over 30 minutes into Tuesday night’s match between Barcelona and Osasuna, Robert Lewandowski was sent off after receiving a second yellow card from referee Gil Manzano after appearing to elbow and back into defender David Garcia. Osasuna’s Garcia also got things started in the sixth minute from a corner, but Xavi‘s team rallied back and prevailed thanks to goals from Pedri and Raphinha in the second half.

The good news is that Lewandowski might now be forced to sit out more crucial matches against Atletico Madrid and Real Betis as well as their forthcoming derby against cross-city rivals Espanyol following the World Cup. Lewandowski protested the decision by making a motion with his fingers and nose as he exited the field, which some have interpreted as a message that the referee was acting “fishy.” Even as he exited the field, the Pole could be seen pointing at the referee.

Lewandowski might be suspended for more than the usual one game that comes with two yellow cards and could be out for an additional three games if the disciplinary committee finds him guilty of challenging the integrity of the official.
