“I had never experienced anything like that” – Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos in awe of Celtic’s home atmosphere at Champions League
Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has spoken about his ‘unbelievable’ Champions League experience at Celtic Park last week. The German international has achieved everything in football, winning the World Cup for his country as well as five Champions League trophy in his career for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Kroos have experienced some amazing football venues along the road, like the Maracan in Brazil and the Camp Nou in Spain. The 32-year-old crossed off another European arena from his bucket list on Tuesday night when Real Madrid faced Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic team in the first match of the Champions League group stage.
It’s fair to say that the Bhoys gave Madrid a small scare in the opening half-hour even though the Spanish powerhouse prevailed 3-0 and Kroos was named game’s player of the match. The Hoops put on a fantastic performance and had numerous opportunities to go in front thanks to Callum McGregor and Daizen Maeda.
However, Celtic’s wasted opportunities ultimately cost them the game as Real showed their superiority in the closing minutes. Despite the team’s 3-0 defeat, the Parkhead supporters sang throughout and after the game to support Ange Postecoglou and his men.
What Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos had to say about his ‘unbelievable’ Celtic Park Head experience
Toni Kroos revealed his thoughts after a “unbelievable” Parkhead experience, so it appears like it will be a night he will remember for a very long time.
He said: “I was being asked several times which (away) stadium is my favourite. And there is a new number one, I can tell you! Celtic Park. It has been just crazy! We came out, and the atmosphere was good. The Champions League anthem started, and I thought the stadium was going to collapse. Unbelievable, I had never experienced anything like that.”
“After the game, everyone applauded. Totally Celtic, of course, but nothing hostile or disrespectful. That was very, very, impressive.” Before the game, Kroos also turned to his Real Madrid teammate, David Alaba, and said: “When we lined up for the team picture, I told David Alaba that it feels like we are already 0-2 down. Just insane!”
