“I have great respect”- Here’s what Chelsea manager said when asked about possible Cristiano Ronaldo signing in mid-transfer window

Graham Potter and Cristiano Ronaldo
Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, declined to comment on rumours that the Chelsea would sign Cristiano Ronaldo during the January transfer window. Ronaldo was said to be leaving Manchester United during the summer 2022 transfer window. Chelsea was one among the teams rumoured to be interested in signing the Portuguese sensation.
However, there was no transfer because Thomas Tuchel reportedly declined to sign the 37-year-old from Manchester United. Man United had also declared that Ronaldo was not for sale despite rumors that he wanted to leave. In the end, Ronaldo decided to remain at Manchester United.
However, there are rumours that Manchester United will let Ronaldo depart the team during the January transfer window. Graham Potter has been named as Chelsea’s next manager after Tuchel was fired, and the team has once more discussed signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Potter was questioned about if he would sign Ronaldo if given the opportunity during the pre-game news conference before Chelsea’s Champions League match against AC Milan. In regards to a player that is not theirs, Potter declined to comment.
“We can spend all day asking these questions. I’m not gonna speak about anyone else. I have great respect for the person you mentioned. And anybody else anybody mentions. Whilst there are not our players, I don’t speak about them,” Potter said.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s season has gotten off to a rough start

In the meantime, Ronaldo’s 22/23 season has gotten off to a rough start. The Portuguese superstar ended the 21–22 season as their leading scorer after securing a return to Manchester United in 2021. He hasn’t been able to repeat that performance this season, though.
Ronaldo has participated for Manchester United in eight games so far this year. Only three of those, though, were starters. The remaining ones were cameo roles. Only one of the three starts took place in the Premier League. Two more came from the Europa League.
This season, Ronaldo has had trouble scoring goals for Manchester United. So far this season, he has only scored once. That occurred during FC Sheriff vs. Man Utd’s Europa League game. Following a penalty awarded to Diogo Dalot, Ronaldo scored from the spot.
In the meantime, Ronaldo did not play in Manchester United‘s Premier League encounter against Manchester City. The Portuguese observed from the stands as City destroyed neighborhood rivals to win 6-3.
