“I think every player bar Lionel Messi is jealous of Cristiano Ronaldo”- Wayne Rooney
During a discussion regarding Manchester United on Sky Sports last Monday, Wayne Rooney was critical of Cristiano Ronaldo’s current state. As a result, Ronaldo commented on Wayne Rooney’s Instagram post as he deemed the Englishman ‘too jealous’ of his abilities.
CR7 returned to Manchester United at the start of the season after leaving Juventus and has been their top scorer this season scoring 18 goals in 32 appearances. The Portuguese player has got even better stats in the Champions League where he scored 6 goals in 5 appearances.
However, since the 37-years-old is aging and a potential decline may be on the cards, Rooney suggested his co-hosts that Manchester United should rather find “young and hungry players” to boost the squad thus, will be better off without Ronaldo.
“if you’re looking to the future of the club you have to go with younger, hungry players to do the best to lift Man Utd over the next two or three years“, commented Rooney.
But Cristiano wasn’t fazed by his words but rather took a playful dig at his ex-teammate and captain by calling him jealous of his exploits in the Derby County manager’s latest Instagram post about MNF with football pundit Jamie Carragher and presenter David Jones. In exact words, Ronaldo commented “two jealous” on Rooney’s Instagram post.
The Derby manager when asked about the Striker’s comment by the press replied, “I saw that this morning! I would probably say that there is not a footballer on the planet who is not jealous of Cristiano! The career he has had, the trophies he has won, the money he has earned…and the six-pack, his body. I think every player bar Lionel Messi is jealous of Cristiano!”
Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo: The History
Under sir Alex Ferguson, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo formed a formidable attacking duo that threatened every defense in Europe They went on to win three consecutive Premier League titles and one Champions League title together in 2008 before CR7 eventually joined Real Madrid in 2009.
On that note, one can say that there is no love lost between the two forwards who have the same vision to see Manchester United get their name back on the trophies rather than in controversial tabloids.
