“I think their coach, who I don’t know personally, showed a lack of respect towards Villarreal; When you spit up at times it comes down and hits you”- Villarreal’s star Dani Parejo takes a dig at Bayern Munich’s coach Julian Nagelsmann
Julian Nagelsmann was accused of being disrespectful to Villarreal after Bayern Munich‘s coach had a judgemental attitude towards the Spanish side after Bayern Munich’s 1-0 loss to the side in leg-1 of the quarterfinals. Interestingly, Villarreal’s players claimed that this is what fuelled their overall aggregate 2-1 at Allianz Arena
Villarreal players Dani Parejo and Gerard Moreno were apprehensive of Bavarian giants’ coach Julian Nagelsmann for failing to respect the Spanish outfit in the quarterfinals of the Champions League 2021-22. In a pre-match press conference, Bayern Munich’s coach said that he expected his team to get the job done in the first leg at Villarreal before returning for the Second leg in Allianz Arena.
“I think their coach, who I don’t know personally, showed a lack of respect towards Villarreal and towards football by saying that he wanted to kill the tie in the opening leg,” Parejo said. “For us, that was a lack of respect and I think in the end, when you spit up at times it comes down and hits you.“
“We played very well at home but they said we made a mistake by not finishing it off. Those comments served as motivation. While Capoue mentioned that the coach lacked Humility in his comments to Villarreal,” responded Moreno when asked about Nagelsmann’s comments.

Villarreal’s wonder-coach Unai emery was applauded as his side made it through the semifinals of the Champions League for the first time in 16 years and just the second time in their history. They won the Europa League last year after defeating Manchester United in the finals.
Villarreal made it through to the semi-finals and will face the daunting task in the form of facing Liverpool and they can expect them to be as humble as they come, as they won’t be underestimating Villarreal. They sit currently 7th in La Liga and will have to grind to qualify for Europe this season.
