“I think there are no doubts”- Lionel Messi claims Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema deserves the Ballon d’Or in 2022

According to reports, Lionel Messi feels that Benzema deserves to win the Ballon d’Or this year after an exceptional season he had in Real Madrid. The Frenchman scored a second-half hat-trick against Messi’s PSG to eliminate them and progress in the competition which they go on to win the title.
The Argentine superstar is the current Ballon d’Or holder, but he admitted that no other player other than Karim Benzema deserves the accolade. Lionel Messi is currently with his Copa America-winning national team preparing for the Finallisima against the Euro Cup-holder, Italy. Messi’s PSG was knocked out by Real Madrid as Benzema scored a hat-trick in the second leg of the Round of 16.
Real Madrid wins two titles this season including the La Liga and their 14th UEFA Champions League which marks a comeback year for the Los Blancos since Cristiano Ronaldo departed. Lionel Messi made a shocking move to PSG last year but had a tough season but still managed to win the league title in his debut season.
Benzema and Messi were the greatest of rivalries in La Liga till last season but the PSG debutant praises him and thinks he will win the Ballon d’Or this season. Benzema played 46 games for the Los Blancos this season and scored 44 goals and 15 assists making it a memorable season for the Frenchman.
“I think there are no doubts, it’s very clear that Benzema had a spectacular year and ended up winning the Champions League, being fundamental from the last 16 onwards in every game. I think there is no doubt this year with the Ballon d’Or,” said the Argentine.
Lionel Messi prepares for the Finallisima as Argentina faces Italy
On Wednesday, Italy, the 2020 Euro champions, will face Lionel Messi-led Argentina, the 2021 Copa America champions, in an inter-confederation one-off encounter called ‘The Finalissima’ at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Italy qualified for the 2022 Finalissima by defeating England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final, while Argentina won the 2021 Copa America, defeating Brazil 1-0 in the top showdown, ending a 28-year drought for a championship.
