Luka Modric discloses talks of 2022 FIFA World Cup and Croatia with Real Madrid players

Critica’s captain Luka Modric talked about Real Madrid’s dressing room conversation before heading to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The runners-up of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will meet Argentina in the upcoming semifinal of the tournament.

No one fancied the chances of Croatia, not the players, the fans, or the experts. However, this lack of belief meant very little for Luka Modric and Croatians who have already stopped Brazil in the quarter-final and are now eyeing to play back-to-back FIFA World Cup finals.

Talking to RTVE, Modric talked about how not sufficient people took the Croatian national team critically. “Before leaving for the World Cup we talked about it a lot inside the Madrid dressing room. I told my teammates to watch out for Croatia!, you can ask them (laughs). No one counted on us.”

On the outside, his Real Madrid companions appear to be “bad friends” for doubting that their Ballon D’Or-winning teammate can lead his squad far into the 2022 FIFA World Cup, although they finished as runners-up in the preceding tournament. But, Croatia has been the dark horse will little to no one believing that they will go so far in the tournament.

In Group F, Croatia was placed with Morocco, Belgium, and Canada. The Croats qualified for the 2nd iteration as runners-up, while Morocco won the group. Croatia faced Japan in the round of 16, and Japan had bested Spain and Germany earlier in the tournament to win Group E. They forced a tie-breaker and ultimately won the game on penalties.

The following matchup pitted Croatia against Brazil, the team that was tabbed as the obvious candidate to win the World Cup. This was Croatia’s fourth victory in World Cup penalty shootouts as they defeated the opposition 4-2 on penalties.

They will compete against Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal. The secret for Croatia is in the middle of the field, where Modric, who is 37 years old and still in the influence of games, is joined by Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic to establish a fearsome trio. And they have a maestro in Luka Modric, the 2018 Ballon D’Or victor who shone when Croatia defeated Argentina 3-0 in the group stage 4 years earlier.
