Vinicius Jr has often been at the center of controversies in recent time. Mostly because of the racial abuse he has had to face in the last few months, from both a faction of fans and from a faction of the player, as per the reports. But this time Vinicius is the one whose statement has brought him back into the headlines. In the post-match interview, after the match against Espanyol, Vinicius spoke about his differences with the referee’s decisions. The Brazilian International said, “When others foul, they don’t get a Yellow. When I make my first foul, I get a Yellow. I don’t want them to protect me, I want them to whistle when there’s a foul.”

The same complaint has been reportedly made by Real Madrid and Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti. According to them, just like any other player, protecting Vinicius on the field is also the job of the referee. But reportedly they too don’t feel are doing enough to protect the Brazilian winger. During the same interview, Ancelotti said, “I found his attitude to be exemplary. He has to keep it up. The referees have shown him many yellows for the kicks that he has received (from the opposition).”

According to Marca, Vinicius until last month had been fouled 79 times this season in La Liga. A remarkable 20 more than Neymar Junior, the next most-fouled player. In La Liga, Isi Palazon is the next most fouled player with 52. Already Vinicius has been fouled more times than last season in its entirety (76), despite only having played 20 matches.

Although fouls are part of the game for every great player and even more so for a dribbler like Vinicius. Still, it is hard to argue that those statistics do not suggest a certain leniency against him. Will Vinicius Jr. get the protection he needs on the field after the statement he made today? Or will this ruthless tactic of fouling him to stop him continue to run its course in La Liga for the rest of the season?

Real Madrid might move away from Barcelona’s side as well

A complaint has been filed officially by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) to the Court against the Football Club Barcelona and two of the club’s ex-Presidents. After teams started making distances between Barcelona and them. One of those clubs is Real Madrid.

Barcelona’s arch-rival had turned out to be their real friend. Where other La Liga clubs reportedly planned to take a stand together and make a move against Barcelona, Real Madrid never supported such a move according to rumors. Even if they didn’t stand directly behind them, reports suggest Real Madrid always gave Barcelona the benefit of doubt in the Negreira case.

But it seems the time of supporting one another is coming to an end, especially after the official complaint. Real Madrid has reportedly issued a statement regarding the Negreira case and Florentino Perez has “urgently summoned” the Board of Directors on Sunday to decide an appropriate action that Real Madrid deems fit.

Although Barcelona has still not been proven guilty, most of the teams are demanding penalties to be charged against Barcelona. Will real Madrid be the next name on the list of those teams?
