“I was thrilled with his plan for the team”- Jules Kounde credits Xavi for persuading him to choose FC Barcelona over Chelsea

Following the club’s announcement of an agreement with Sevilla on Thursday afternoon, Jules Koundé has now been formally confirmed as Barcelona’s fifth acquisition of the summer.
Shortly after his arrival at Camp Nou, the French center-back conducted a quick interview with the club’s official channel and praised his new teammates and coach.
“Xavi played a big role in me coming here,” Koundé stated in a club-released video. “I spoke several times with him and I was thrilled with his plan for the team. I believe that we see football in the same way. I want to do all I can to play the maximum number of minutes, adapt to the team, and have a leading role in this club.”

Without Xavi’s influence on the preparation and execution of the acquisitions made so far, Barça would unquestionably not be in the position they are this summer. They all met the team’s requirements, and the coach aggressively sought out all five of the players after they turned down more lucrative offers from competing clubs to join Xavi’s Barça.
Barcelona has beaten Chelsea to a key transfer target twice this summer, most recently when the Spanish club persuaded Leeds winger Raphinha to leave Stamford Bridge for Camp Nou in a €58 million deal.
French national team player Koundé is a flexible centre-back who can play both center and right back. He made all 11 of his international appearances for France since last June and started 31 of his 32 La Liga games for Sevilla last season. He credited Barcelona coach Xavi as being a major factor in his choice to remain in La Liga rather than join the Blues.
