Cristiano Ronaldo is set to complete 200 appearances for his country, Portugal, on Tuesday. He will be achieving this milestone against Iceland. Intriguingly, the Portuguese superstar will become the first player in history to have 200 international appearances.
Ronaldo will hit the milestone in Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavik, where he scored his 25th goal for his nation in cap number 78, all the way back in October 2010. The former Real Madrid star’s scoring rate has increased significantly since then. With a total of 122 goals in 199 caps making him the all-time leading men’s international striker.
The Icelandic national team last played Portugal at the 2016 European Championship, drawing 1-1. Iceland’s captain, Aron Einar Gunnarsson, wanted to switch shirts with Ronaldo after the game but was turned down. Aron was asked at yesterday’s news conference if he planned to try again tonight.
I think I’ll let it go. It’ll be his 200th international appearance so he’ll probably want to keep his jersey. So I think I’ll let it be this time.Aron Einar Gunnarsson said.
Portugal would like to win this momentous match for their star player, and also, in order to further their qualification chances for the 2024 Euros.

They [Iceland] have a very good team, in my opinion. They have a strong team. And, you know, when they play at home, it’s always tough to beat teams with their support, their fans, their stadium.
