“I’d like to play between four and five years at the top before moving on to a new experience”- Sergio Ramos quashes all retirement rumors

In a conversation with Amazon Prime, Sergio Ramos revealed his desire to carry on playing elite-level football for the “next four to five years” before hanging up his boots or trying something else. He further stated that he would like to extend his contract to three years in Paris Saint-Germain but would not hang up his boots until his body gives up completely.

Sergio Ramos hasn’t played much football this season, missing out on most of the matches because of injuries. He didn’t even feature in PSG’s game against his former club, Real Madrid, in the UEFA Champions League 2021-22.

“I’d like to play between four and five years at the top before moving on to a new experience, I have two years here in Paris, we’ll try to make that three! One more, and then we’ll see. But as long as the body holds up, I think I can keep my head well-focused,” said Ramos.

“I prefer to play in the best team in the world than to be the best player because in the end football is a collective sport and it is about winning as a team. Before being the best in the world, I prefer to play in world championships, Champions League. And for everything, you always need the work of the team,” added the Spaniard.

Injuries have hindered his performances drastically as he was able to register only 7 appearances in all competitions this season, which led to speculations that he might leave after only just one season inspite of him wanting to stay throughout his contract.

Sergio Ramos made his sixth Ligue 1 appearance against Clermont Foot on Sunday and it was the first time he played the full 90 minutes since January 26, 2022, when Paris faced Reims away from home in the Coupe de France semifinals.

He had been out due to a calf injury recently, similar to the one he had at the start of the season. However, he is fully fit now and thus, will even look forward to participating in the FIFA World Cup 2022.
