Former Brazil International and FC Barcelona legend Dani Alves is probably the most high-profile player to be convicted of a crime in recent times. On February 22, a Spanish court found that Alves was guilty of rape, which dated back to a complaint made by the victim for an incident back in 2002. After being found guilty of rape, the player was sentenced to four years and six months in jail. He was also ordered to pay a fine of €150,000 to the victim.

As for Quincy Promes, the former Netherlands International was convicted for his involvement in a drug smuggling ring. A Dutch court sentenced the 32-year-old to six years in prison in absentia after finding him guilty of smuggling drugs. In addition to the two players, Mason Greenwood‘s charge of sexual abuse and his subsequent acquittal also made commotion on social media last year.
