“I’m working my body”- Chelsea’s Thiago Silva promises to continue playing football until this age

Chelsea’s defender Thiago Silva turns 38 today, but if you watched him play, you wouldn’t guess he was a day older than 28. He plays the game with ease and exudes comfort and physical fitness while he is on the field. He is a world-class player with a tonne of experience.
“I have it settled in my mind, I’m working my body to play until I’m 40,” Thiago Silva said in an interview.
“I’m not sure if it’s because I played with Maldini and he carried on until he turned 41, but I watched the last six months of his great career and could see it’s possible to get there.
“It was impressive, the way he prepared himself to games, and how he dedicated himself to the team. My plan is to be at the next World Cup in 2022.”

Thiago Silva has been talking about his future on the Chelsea website today, and the news that he plans to play until he is 40 will be welcome news to most Blues supporters.
“I talk often with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and recently more often because Chelsea will play against AC Milan in the Champions league,” Silva said. “My aim is to play until I’m 40 years old but I don’t know if it will be this level or this competition.
“It depends on this season and we’ll see what will happen in the World Cup. It also depends on a contract extension but yeah, my aim is to play until I’m 40.”
