“They only want fighting”- Indian fans slam Kuwait for unnecessary brawl after SAFF championship contest results in unfortunate 1-1 draw

A fight between players engulfed the closing stages of the match where India faced Kuwait during the 2023 SAFF Championship match on Tuesday. Indian forward Rahim Ali and Al Qallaf of Kuwait along with the Indian coach, Igor Stimac, received reds as India conceded through an own goal in the frantic end game Both teams shared the points as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The brawl started in the 88th minute of the game as Kuwait’s Hamad Al Qallaf pushed India’s Abdul Sahal Samad to the ground. This was followed by a heavy approach from the Blue Tigers. India’s Rahim Ali pushed Al Qallaf and both sides started to dash against each other which caused chaos on the field. The referee took the matter into his own hands and sent off both Rahim Ali and Hamad Alqallaf out of the match.
Team India‘s head coach Igor Stimac saw a yellow card in the game at the 63 minutes mark for getting into a heated argument between the players. He then received a second yellow card in the 80th minute which resulted in a red card and he was asked to leave the dugout. This was the second sending-off for the Craotian in three games of the tournament. The first one came for him in the match where India faced Pakistan. This resulted in him missing the next game of the team against Nepal.
The match overall was a compact one. Both sides saw quite some chances coming toward although nothing was on the sheet. This was the case until Sunil Chhetri scored in the 47th minute of the game with his right foot. This sent India to a 1-0 lead right at the cusp of halftime.
In the second half the, match restarted with Kuwait enjoying a great deal of ball possession although it didn’t last much longer as India backed their game and was again competition with them head to head. The visitors had a pinch of good luck in the 93rd minute as they had their own goal from Mohun Bagan defender Anwar Ali to save them from defeat. And this resulted in both teams sharing the spoils of the match. Although this draw won’t affect both teams very heavily. Both Kuwait and India have already qualified for the semifinals of the 2023 SAFF Championship.

India faced Kuwait in the 2023 SAFF Championship match. The match ended up in an even 1-1 draw which saw both sides share the points. But it had all the ingredients of a thriller. The referee sent both the player involved in the brawl, Kuwait’s Hamad Al Qallaf and India’s Rahim Ali off in the 90th minute before the match restarted from the pause. The Blue Tigers’ manager Igor Stimac was already sent off the ground. He was shown two yellow cards in the 63rd and 80th minute of the game.
Fans were unhappy with Kuwait’s behavior and playing style today. They thought that it wasn’t the right decision to send Stimac off, Many even posted about their disappointments regarding the game on social media. One fan wrote, “Indian Harry Maguire.” Another fan wrote, “Kuwait plays dirty tactics, pushing players unnecessary. They want to distract the play, stop play, they don’t want to play football…” And third fan wrote, “Why are every team’s players fighting unnecessary with Indian team players.”
