Barcelona defender Inigo Martinez made the move from Athletic Club to the Camp Nou in 2023, when he joined the Catalans on a free transfer. Despite him putting up solid performances for the club since his arrival, the No.5 was subject to abuse and trolls nonetheless. Martinez had seemingly had enough when a young fan chose to do the same a few days back as he made his way to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

The viral video captured by a fan shows a furious Martinez stopping his car in the middle of the road. He left his door unlocked as he stormed out in rage toward the young fan. Despite there not being anything in the video as to what provoked the defender, his response makes it obvious that he is responding to abuse hurled by the young supporter.

This is the last time you call me a fool or insult me. Same goes for your friend. Have you heard or not? And don't be cocky.

Martinez’s most recent games came against Las Palmas and Atletico Madrid, where the club kept clean sheets in both. The player has been an important part of Barcelona’s defense and will continue to do so as the club enters the final end of its season.

Barcelona set to offer 17-year-old defender massive contract

FC Barcelona rank at the very top when it comes to developing young talent. The club have produced brilliant talents including the likes of Lamine Yamal, Gavi, and Hector Fort, have all made their mark on Xavi’s squad. While Lamine Yamal takes the spotlight when it comes to the ‘best’ academy talent at the club, another player, Pau Cubarsi, has also been on the rise.

The teenager has seen a meteoric rise in form and importance to the squad, as he took over La Liga by storm with his recent performances. The young centre-back has put up impressive displays against both Atletico Madrid and Napoli in recent weeks. His performances have been so good that even rival managers have praised the star for having a ‘maturity’ far beyond his years.

As Europe starts to take notice of the young star, the club are faced with a problem. His extremely low release clause of €10 million has garnered attention from several Premier League clubs.

As Barcelona fear that they may have to let a brilliant talent slip from their hands, it wouldn’t be surprising if the club offer a long-term deal to the player. Fabrizio Romano reports that a move has already been made, and despite the deal not coming into force till he turns 18 (January 2025), the club can increase his release clause to €1 billion.
