Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami beat Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James’ teams to top the list of MOST searched Sports teams in 2023

To label Lionel Messi as ‘influential’ would be an understatement. The 36-year-old 5’7″ Argentine’s humble stature does not do justice to his ‘monumental’ influence on the sport. Google released their annual ‘Year in Search’ which features the most searched sports teams globally in 2023. Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami topped the list for the most searched sports team in 2023. Miami surpassed LeBron James‘ Los Angeles Lakers (#2) and Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Al-Nassr (#3) to clinch top spot in the list.

The Argentine joined the club owned by David Beckham on July 15th on a free transfer. It remains safe to say that the #10’s arrival from PSG and the subsequent popularity has greatly influenced the team’s #1 spot on the list. Even though Lionel Messi and co. missed out on the MLS play-offs, the club has been at the center of the global spotlight ever since.

Ever since Messi donned the pink jersey of Inter Miami, jersey sales have skyrocketed. Collaborations with Vogue Magazine and partnerships with Apple TV are other notable instances of Messi’s ‘influence’. The Argentine managed a total of 14 goals and set up another 11 in all competitions in his debut season. However, injuries hurt the later end of their season as they missed out on the playoffs. Reportedly, Luis Suarez will join the club in the coming season.
