MLS club Inter Miami kicked off their pre-season against El Salvador in a hybrid friendly on Friday. The side, partly owned by David Beckham managed to bring in Lionel Messi last year, in July. His arrival was succeeded by that of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. Subsequently, Luis Suarez was also brought in to complete the FC Barcelona ‘reunion.’ A clip from the game on Friday proved that the four from Barcelona still have the ‘connection’ that they used to share at their former club.
Former Barcà #9 Luis Suarez was the last to arrive at Inter Miami after completing a free transfer from Brasileiro Série A side Gremio. Following his arrival, clips and images from training gave fans and supporters glimpses of the four during their time together in Spain. They played together from 2014 to 2021 when Luis Suarez left for Atletico Madrid.
Against El Salvador however, the former teammates were in complete sync, as a brilliant move involving all four nearly resulted in a goal. The move was started by Jordi Alba, who whipped in an early cross to the penalty area. Suarez got on the end of it, to flick it behind got Sergio Busquets.
The midfielder immediately found Lionel Messi, who in a quick 1-2 with Busquets, bypassed the opposition defense. He then unleashed a shot on goal, which went straight to the hands of the keeper. His subsequent follow-up of the rebound was smothered.
Lionel Messi and co. prepare for Al-Nassr showdown as Cristiano Ronaldo ‘doubtful’ for clash
Lionel Messi and co. kicked off their pre-season in a goalless draw against El Salvador on Friday. Even though the MLS club endured a ‘rough’ start to their season, upcoming games against FC Dallas and Al-Hilal will ‘prepare’ them for the heavily anticipated clash against Al-Nassr. Saudi club Al-Nassr features Lionel Messi’s ‘eternal’ rival, Cristiano Ronaldo. Many have labeled the clash as their ‘last dance.’
However, reports suggest that the two may not take to the pitch simultaneously as a calf injury may force the #7 to miss the clash on February 1st. It is understood that the superstar will miss a total of 3 games, which include the game on February 1st. Ronaldo likely picked up the injury in training. The club medical staff also informed head coach Luis Castro that the injury has also affected the player’s back foot.
As it stands, the Saudi Pro League is on a break in the light of the ongoing Asian Cup, the #7 is set to miss games against Shanghai Shenhua, Zhejiang and at last Inter Miami, set to kick-off on February 1st. Ronaldo has been in stellar form this season and ended 2023 as the Global top scorer with 54 goals. His last game for the club came on the 26th of December against Al-Ittihad.
