David Beckham, owner of Inter Miami, has terminated the contract of one of his players for criticizing the signing of Lionel Messi. Prior to the Argentine joining the club, Nick Marsman had been asked about his thoughts on the rumors. He said that the club is not ready for the player’s arrival.

“We have a temporary stadium, people can just walk on the pitch, there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready,” he said. Inter Miami have now released him from his contract, making him a free agent. MLS allows clubs to cancel one of their player’s contracts while the season is ongoing. A club statement by the club read, “Inter Miami CF announced today that it has exercised its Salary Budget Charge buyout on goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s Major League Soccer (MLS) contract.” The former Feyenoord goalkeeper signed for the club in April 2021. Nick went on to become an important member of the team playing in 32 games

On 5th June, Messi announced that he would join Inter Miami. He had two other significant offers on the table. One was from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, with a bumper offer of £300m. It would have made him the richest player in the world.

The Saudi Pro League is also becoming a haven for superstars. With Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi’s longtime rival joining Al-Nassr in 2022, many other players are also following in his footsteps. But, Lionel Messi rejected the offer as he felt that it is not right for him. Besides the second offer to him was from Barcelona.

Barcelona had given an offer to Messi to lure him back to the club where he had spent most of his life at. He joined them in 2000, making his senior debut four years later. The Argentine stayed there till 2021 winning everything there is to win.

He also won six Ballon D’ors during his time there. But, he had to leave the club as they were unable to register him due to their financial constraints. Two years later, a return was on the cards.

However, the World Cup winner realized that they are still not ready to have him on the team and would have to sell numerous players to accommodate the deal. Thus, he decided against it and joined Miami.
