Is Casemiro Going to Play for Manchester United Against Liverpool in the Premier League?

Casemiro is one of the names Manchester United fans would love to see on the team sheet as the Red Devils travel to Merseyside to play Liverpool on Saturday. Manchester United have been a different side with the Brazilian on the pitch.

Casemiro has been one of the most inspired signings for Manchester United this season. The former Real Madrid midfielder came to Manchester with the experience of several champions league medals under his belt. His addition, despite costing a lot, was to solve the midfield issue that the Red Devils have been facing for a long time and as the season progresses, the money United had to spend looks more and more like a bargain.

The 31-year-old, coupled with Christian Eriksen, has revolutionised the Manchester United midfield. Their ability and calmness on the ball and their experience in the game have been the key source of creativity while offering an added sense of reliability to the team.

Eric Ten Hag, the mastermind of the Red Devils’ resurgence this season, has spoken highly of the former Real Madrid man. During the press conference ahead of the game, the Dutch stressed on his previous stance on the player and said, “He is such a leader and he is so important for us. Not only with his performances, skills, like scoring a goal, or his header, or like linking up or intercepting balls. Organisation, the mentality, the culture, and we are so happy that we signed him.”

Ten Hag took his time to introduce the midfielder as he understood that the pace of the English game might startle the Brazilian, which will hamper his confidence. However, since his first appearance, Casemiro has single-handedly improved the squad. In the 34 games he has featured in, Manchester United has lost only 3 games.

Casemiro has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the world for at least the past five years. His ability has often been shrouded by the overarching brilliance of Kross and Modric in Real Madrid. Despite multiple pundits showing concerns over his talent, the stats show that it was actually the brazilian who enabled the other two to play freely.

He ranks among the top one per cent of players for blocks and clearances with 2.2 blocks and 2.5 clearances per 90. He also commits 3.1 tackles in the same timeframe and wins 2.8 aerial duels. All these stats suggest that without possession, Casemiro almost works like a third central defender who roams across the pitch.

With the ball in his feet, Casemiro makes more than 60 passes per game. Since joining the English giants, Casemiro has made 133 progressive passes, almost 5 per 90 minutes. This makes him a perfect regista or a conductor who works as a metronome to control the tempo of the game.

Casmiro has already played Liverpool four times during his time in Madrid and he has never lost, winning three of them. Manchester United will like the player to keep his record intact after the game on Sunday.
