“It’s an absolute disgrace”- Liverpool legend slams 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as ‘corrupt’
Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher referred to the forthcoming Qatar FIFA World Cup as a “absolute disgrace,” “corrupt,” and “absolutely horrible.” The former Liverpool defender was speaking to CBS Sports after Son Heung-min was substituted in the first half of Spurs’ Champions League match against Marseille, who was obviously rattled.
Discussions over whether the South Korean international will participate in this winter’s tournament were in full force following a severe head collision with Chancel Mbemba. Carragher was incensed by the most recent injury, which occurred only weeks before this winter’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and he wasn’t subtle in his criticism of FIFA’s choice to move the event.
Jamie Carragher stated “I think it’s an absolute disgrace that the World Cup is in the position it’s in, for lots of reasons. It was corrupt that Qatar were given the World Cup, we knew that at the time.
“They campaigned on having it in the summer, it is impossible there to have a World Cup in the summer with the temperature, it gets moved to the situation where it is now in the middle of the season.
“Players who spend their whole lives dreaming of playing in a World Cup and now could be [out injured] – as we’ve seen with Son and players all around the world.

Jamie Carragher has revealed that he wants to see Lionel Messi and Argentina win the FIFA World Cup this winter
The 35-year-old is in the final stages of his football career, and it’s very probable that football fans won’t get another chance to see Messi play in the biggest tournament in the world. The Argentinean has won seven Ballon d’Or honors, four Champions League championships, ten La Liga titles, an Olympic gold medal, three FIFA Club World Cups, and a Copa America with his national side thus far in his long career.
Additionally, he has 825 appearances across all competitions and 691 goals scored. Messi, who has nearly achieved everything, now has one final opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Diego Maradona and take Argentina to the World Cup.

Speaking on CBS sports, Carragher said: “He’s the best player that all three of us have ever seen.
“You have greats who have come before, maybe Pele and Johan Cruyff and of course Diego Maradona, but I would say that Lionel Messi is the greatest player ever to play football. That may not be universal in everybody’s eyes because everyone associates that you almost have to win a World Cup.”
“I would love nothing more in Qatar than Argentina and Lionel Messi to win the World Cup. It would just cement him not just where I see him, but in everybody’s eyes.”
