The comment made by the ambassador and Former Qatari international Khalid Salman was very disgraceful as he said, “They have to accept our rules here. (Homosexuality) is haram. You know what haram (forbidden) means? When asked why it was haram, he said: ‘I am not a strict Muslim but why is it haram? Because it is damage in the mind.”

Sepp Blatter, the disgraced former FIFA president, added fuel to the flames by acknowledging that the Middle Eastern nation shouldn’t have been chosen as the hosts. Blatter told the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, “The choice of Qatar was a mistake,”   As Qatar was already receiving criticism, these messages also spread like wildfire across the internet.

He also added, “At the time, we actually agreed in the executive committee that Russia should get the 2018 World Cup and the USA that of 2022. It would have been a gesture of peace if the two long-standing political opponents had hosted the World Cup one after the other. It’s too small a country. Football and the World Cup are too big for that.”
