Mason Greenwood, the 22-year-old English Striker, has been reported to have received an invitation from the Jamaica Football Association to consider swapping his nationality. The former Manchester United forward has recently parted ways with the club by mutual decision after much deliberations and examination into his case.
In October 2022, Mason Greenwood was allegedly charged with sexual assault and attempted rape by his girlfriend, Harriet Robson. Although he was dropped off all the charges in February 2023, Greenwood’s professional football career has been tarnished. As a result, Manchester United terminated Greenwood’s contract which was to expire in 2025.
Latest to the scenario, as per reliable reports, the Jamaica Football Association has extended their invitation to the Englishman to continue his international professional footballing career with Jamaica. With all the charges of sexual assault and rape added to backlash from supporters and social media fans, it is seemingly unlikely for Greenwood to be able to play for England ever again. Under scrutiny, this opened up an opportunity for the young skillful striker to represent Jamaica on the international platform.
Mason Greenwood’s future endeavour
Ever since Greenwood was prosecuted by the Crown Court and given the final decision to drop off his alleged charges, the young talent has been seen working hard and putting in all his best efforts to get back onto the pitch. Many clubs from Europe and Saudi Arabia have been speculated to make a bid on Mason Greenwood.
Earlier in May, Serie A side, Roma was in talks with the Premier League Giants, Manchester United to sign the player which later dropped. The signing could have given the talented forward to nurture his footballing career navigating through his past mistakes under his ex-coach Jose Mourinho.
Also, reports have been circulating all over the media tabloids of Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq to get Greenwood’s signing for the new season of the Saudi Pro League. As the 2023/24 season progresses all over the glove over numerous leagues, fans and supporters are anticipating Greenwood’s upcoming club as they want to see their favorite young talent flourish in his career.
