Jamie Carragher has come out against Mikel Arteta after Arsenal‘s draw last weekend.“The club needs to chill out and stop panicking,” he commented as Arsenal dropped two points against 10-man Fulham at the Emirates.

“A serious title setback is a sure-fire way of self-sabotaging aspirations before the campaign has truly got underway,” Carragher says. The former Liverpool defender believes that Arsenal are being too extreme in their reactions. Every point won or a point lost is blown out of proportion. With the Premier League, only 3 weeks in, Jamie believes that Arsenal is reacting to each result emotionally. Arsenal’s overreaction to each result with too much joy and too much sorrow can be detrimental for a long season ahead. Arteta needs to calm things down according to Carragher.

Mikel Arteta’s outstanding last season with Arsenal saw them finish 2nd to Manchester City. Carragher believes that the benchmark set from last season will affect Arsenal and their expectations. The Arsenal of last season were a free-flowing team who were fluid in their play. 7 point out of the possible 9, the former Liverpool man says that Arsenal are in a very good spot and they do not want to affect that with the attitude. Due to the competition from Pep Guardiola‘s side posing a potential threat with their perfectness.

Man City are currently 3 wins out of 3. Arsenal are 2 wins and 1 draw out of 3. Pep Guardiola is only beaten by fine margins, fans know that. Jamie Carragher believes that while Mikel Arteta will require perfection or close to it to compete against Pep, it is coming at the expense of Arsenal’s mental strength.

What does it take to beat Pep? Ask Jurgen Klopp

32 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. 99 points. That is what Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool side had to do in order to dethrone Pep from the Premier League. Pep named Jurgen Klopp as his biggest rival in his managerial career. Since Pep’s arrival, Liverpool have ended in second place twice to Man City. In the ’18/19 season, the title race was decided on the final day. Man City would lift the title with 98 points, the Reds with 97.

To showcase the margins between the two and the rest, 3rd place Chelsea were at 72 points. Fans saw a repeat of this in 2021/22 when Man City won the title with 93 points, Liverpool at 92. Coincidentally, Chelsea finished 3rd again with an improved 74 points.

So what did it take to beat Man City, in a near-perfect season? Liverpool achieved 99 points, 1 off the City’s Centurion record. Klopp’s side would either wash teams away with their Gegenpressing or, as champions do, pull a result out of nowhere through pure individual brilliance. Mohamed Salah‘s 19 goals and Sadio Mané’s 18 gave Liverpool a fearsome forward line. At the back with Allison, Trent, Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Robertson, the Liverpool back-line was formidable.

Arsenal welcome Manchester United on Sunday at the Emirates in a crucial game for the Gunners. A convincing win would send a strong message to Pep who is looking down upon them from the apex.
