Premier League giants Chelsea have suffered quite the fall from grace. The club owned by Todd Boehly has endured extremely poor stints of form, which see themselves lie in ninth position after 21 games. A former Chelsea star, John Obi Mikel, has suggested that the club bring back extreme measures if they are to retain their level in the league shortly.

While the club has spent a whopping €1,075 million since 2022, the same has not been reflected in its results, much to the disappointment and criticism from the public. Ex-Chelsea man Obi Mikel has ‘advised’ Todd Boehly to not be afraid to sack Mauricio Pochettino if results do not improve. He explained what life was like under former owner Roman Abramovich.

If you don’t win, Roman gets you out the door and brings someone else in instead. I think that the new owner should also think this way. What’s the point of being at Chelsea if you can’t win?

He said that the club has had enough time to revise and reflect and now is the time to bring in results. The Nigerian midfielder also said that Victor Osimhen is the solution to Chelsea’s attacking troubles. Mikel represented Chelsea for a total of 11 seasons.

Chelsea’s search for striker continues as Karim Benzema ‘pushes’ for transfer

Even though Chelsea were initially behind the signature of Victor Osimhen, the Premier League giants have been made to to take notice of the Karim Benzema situation. However, the former Real Madrid #9 only left the club in the summer to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. With over 2 years left on his contract with the Saudi club, rumors have surfaced regarding his desire to leave the club.

The player has been left out of the team’s training camp after ‘repeatedly’ failing to report to duty. Though that is a different case in itself, Chelsea have expressed their interest to sign the star. The club sees Benzema as a short-term replacement which will also bring in experience and balance to Pochettino’s relatively ‘young’ squad. The boss, however, strongly claimed that they do not need a center-forward in January.

Pochettino added;

I never said we need another player. We are assessing the market and evaluating all the options available.

Besides Chelsea, other top clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United have also set their eyes on the Frenchman. Chelsea return to action a week from now, against Middlesbrough in the second leg of the EFL Cup. They are trailing 1-0 on aggregate and will have to come from behind if they are to progress to the final.
