Jonny Otto has been with Wolverhampton Wanderers since 2018 when he first joined the team on loan. After a successful spell with the club, he was purchased from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee and was instrumental in bringing the team to the Premier League.
5 years later, Otto is no longer in favor of Gary O’Neil and Algerian wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri starts ahead of him. He was placed on the transfer list and had received offers from Spain, his homeland, but rejected all offers to fight for a place in the Wolves starting XI. 3 appearances later, Otto was now exiled from the first team’s training and has now found himself training with the U-21s.
This exile only happened due to a violent outburst by the Spaniard, who now finds himself banished from the first team till the end of January 2024. It happened just a few days before their 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the Emirates Stadium. During training, he swung his elbow toward u-21 forward, Tawanda Chirewa, after a challenge but missed.
When an assistant coach came to calm things down, Otto spitted on him and then was ordered to leave the training ground. When he returned to the player’s room, he smashed a TV and damaged a table. The 29-year-old was then sent home. After this incident, he apologized but the club had decided to punish him for his outburst.

What lies in the future for Jonny Otto?
Matt Hobbs, the Sporting and technical director of Wolves, announced that Jonny Otto was told to stay away from the first team. Hobbs called him a great servant of the club and assured that the incident did not change that fact. He said the defender was allowed to continue training for the club and was also allowed to feature for the u21s side, which ensured he would be in match fitness.
The club has also exiled him till the end of the winter transfer window, which is the end of January 2024. He was an important part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves side but fell down the pecking order in the past few years.
With the break away from the first team, it looks like representatives from both sides are trying to find Jonny Otto a move away from the Molineux. In the current season, he has managed only 4 minutes in the Premier League but featured the entire 90 minutes in the 2 matches of the Carabao Cup they played.
