Jordan Henderson is close to joining Saudi club Al-Ettifaq for a fee of £12 million. The player joined Liverpool in 2011 from Sunderland and was appointed captain of the club in 2015. Since then, he has won various trophies for the club, including the Premier League and the Champions League.

Henderson would join the list of European stars who have moved to the Saudi Pro League this season. Some of the other names are Riyad Mahrez, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and former teammate Roberto Firmino. However, Henderson’s transfer is being heavily criticized, unlike the other players.

Now, all the groups that praised him before are furious with his decision to move to Saudi Arabia.

It is illegal to be part of the LGBTQ+ community in the country. Numerous atrocities have been committed against them. In a statement on Twitter an LGBTQ+ fan group in England said, “If the rumors are true, then that banner(created for Henderson) will be consigned to the depths of history, another tangible source of our disappointment in the struggle for acceptance within the game.” It remains to be seen how Henderson will react to all these allegations against him.
