Portuguese Manager Jose Mourinho has opened up on his plans. He has hinted towards following Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi to seal the bag when he has ‘free time.’ He accepted that his sole focus currently lies with the Italian side where his job might be on the line, given their recent disappointing results.
Mourinho received multiple offers from the Middle East, but he chose to swear his loyalty to AS Roma after guiding them to back-to-back European Finals. He later highlighted that he intends to stay in Italy and compete at the highest stage.
He also expressed his interest in experiencing the development of Saudi football and being a part of it. His involvement could be a massive boost to the league, which already has a high-profile set of players representing the league.
He acknowledged the shift in the power dynamics of football as many players, even in their prime, moved to the Saudi Pro League. With his sights set on improving upon Roma’s devastating 13th position in the Serie A, he certainly has a big job.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma job is on the line
AS Roma play Cagliari, Jose Mourinho might be in hot waters after a shambolic start to the campaign for AS Roma. After a sixth-place finish in the league season, Roma lost the Europa League finals to Sevilla. Roma has encountered a challenging start to the Serie A season, currently occupying the 13th position in the standings with just two wins from seven matches, trailing six points behind fourth-placed Juventus.
Moreover, the team has been plagued by numerous injury concerns. Key players like Chris Smalling, Diego Llorente, Marash Kumbulla, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Renato Sanches, and Tammy Abraham are all sidelined due to fitness issues. While Mourinho’s tenure at Roma began with significant success, including winning the UEFA Europa Conference League in the 2021-22 season and reaching the UEFA Europa League final in the following year, the club’s underwhelming performance in Serie A has raised concerns.
Despite his initial achievements, the team’s current league position and performance have prompted discussions about Mourinho’s future, and a loss to struggling Cagliari could potentially seal his fate as the club’s manager.
