Jose Mourinho in the front row to become the new PSG manager amidst rumors of Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking: Reports

Jose Mourinho

In a shocking turn of events, serial title winner Jose Mourinho is being considered the leading candidate to become the new PSG manager, according to reports.

The current AS Roma manager is being personally courted by PSG President Nasser al Khalefi. Jose Mourinho has a knack for winning European competitions wherever he goes, be it Manchester United, Real Madrid, or even massive underdogs FC Porto and Inter Milan. He even won the first-ever edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League with AS Roma this season.

Is Mourinho going to PSG?

Paris Saint-Germain has dominated domestically since Qatar Sports Investment took over the club in 2011, but the European trophy has remained elusive up to now following a string of disappointing defeats in the latter stages. Mourinho’s pedigree in Europe is said to be the motivating factor in PSG’s interest to lure the Portuguese away from Roma.

The 59-year-old Portugal national guided Roma to win the first-ever Europa Conference League in May – the first major European trophy ever lifted by the Italian side. It was his fifth European trophy and first since 2017 when he oversaw Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League.

But it’s in the Champions League where Mourinho first rose to fame, with his unfancied Porto team stunning the world by lifting the coveted trophy in 2004. He repeated the feat with Inter just six years later.

The speculation of a move to PSG comes just a week after Jose Mourinho underlined his commitment to Roma following reports that he could leave for Newcastle and the Portugal national team.

Eurosport France journalist Martin Mosnier has suggested that Jose Mourinho is not in the running this year. “Today, the favorite is Christophe Galtier, the Nice coach,” he explained. Le Parisien reported that Paris and Luis Campos have made it their priority, and no one is talking about Jose Mourinho in France. The other names under consideration are Sergio Conceiçao (FC Porto) and Marcelo Gallardo of River Plate. “Although he is not very well known outside France, Galtier has been voted best coach in Ligue 1 three time.” Mosnier explained.

But the biggest name that remains connected with Paris for the coach position is Zinedine Zidane, the legendary player for Real Madrid and Juventus and then an amazing coach for Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane is Parisians’ first choice to become the new coach for next season despite turning down the French giants several times. Zidane is thinking of becoming the France coach after the World Cup. However, Paris Saint Germain, as showed with Mbappe, does not give up and reportedly met with the former Real Madrid coach last week. That was announced this Tuesday by ‘Mundo Deportivo’ journalist Ramon Fuentes.

The offer Zinedine Zidane had on the table would have made him the best coach in the world. That is because he would earn 25 million euros net a year. He would therefore get more than Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid (24) and Pep Guardiola at Man City (23), according to besoccer.com

There is nothing agreed however and they decided to meet again in the coming days although the coach is now enjoying some time with his family in Ibiza where he will study the offer and consider whether to accept the offer from Paris or to keep waiting for the national team appointment.
