In a recent revelation from the past, Jose Mourinho opened up about his time at Chelsea. This was when he had the luxury of using some of the hottest talents in the world at his disposal. On the Obi One Podcast, the Roma manager opened up on his struggles with managing two of the current best players in the world, Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah.
He disclosed that their departures were imminent. They were willing to take advantage of their fair share of opportunities, in the playing eleven. Irrespective of Jose Mourinho’s trying not to take any blame for their treatment. It was not the case when they left the club and were regarded as ‘Chelsea rejects’.
They left because they didn't want to wait. History proves that their option was good because they've had the careers they have and reached a high standard, but sometimes kids make decisions like that because they can't wait, or they don't have the patience to be calm and to wait for the right moment.Jose Mourinho said on Obi One Podcast
What’s surprising is the part where Mourinho himself limited their chances. He was also hyper-critical of their training session in front of the media a decade back. It is evident the ‘Special One’ had fumbled the opportunity to make the best use of players who would go on to become legends for Manchester City and Liverpool and is trying to clear up his image by being assertive.
A similar situation can be linked to the case of youngsters leaving their parent club to make it big due to a lack of playing time. Cole Palmer’s transfer from Manchester City is the most recent high-profile transfer. However, the strong personalities and self-beliefs of both players, who knew they had more prominent parts to play and contribute to the team, led to their transfers. Eventually, they shaped a successful career path for them.
Chelsea’s manager asks his striker to take inspiration from Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has sought to motivate struggling forward Nicolas Jackson by drawing parallels between Jackson’s current challenges and the earlier difficulties faced by former Chelsea stars Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne. Despite facing criticism for missed opportunities, Jackson has managed to score seven Premier League goals in 16 appearances this season.
Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who brought in Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, is supporting the young striker. Pochettino highlights that even stars like Salah and De Bruyne faced challenges at Stamford Bridge but found success elsewhere. Jackson, expressing gratitude for Pochettino’s guidance, says,
He motivates me every day, mentioning he's seen players worse than me who are now big names.
Jackson emphasizes Pochettino’s advice: ignore criticism and focus on coaching, inspired by Salah and De Bruyne. Despite Chelsea’s 10th place, Jackson stays optimistic, urging the team to ignore distractions like social media and enhance on-field performance.
