Jose Mourinho, of all people, is currently out of work. The ‘Special One’ was let go by AS Roma recently owing to poor form and inconsistent results. However, Mourinho shocked fans when news of a potential return to Manchester United surfaced on social media. As fans remain excited at the prospect of his return, here’s a look at an iconic Jose Mourinho moment with Manchester United.

Many believe that the manager has unfinished business at the club after parting ways with them nearly 5 years ago. A press conference at United saw the manager have a go at reporters, for their ‘unnecessarily’ negative assessment of himself. While United lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur before the conference, Mourinho stood firm in his opinion that his side performed well.

He also complained that the reporters added a negative slant to the game, be it a win or loss.

He also reminded them that he had more Premier League titles (3), than any other manager in the League at that time. His potential return to the club reminded many of the numerous iconic moments shared between the manager and the club.

Looking back at Mourinho’s ‘bottle smashing’ celebration at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho spent 2 years at Old Trafford, from 2016 to 2018. The Portuguese manager had numerous iconic celebrations and moments on the touchline, with his ‘angry’ bottle-smashing celebration topping the list for many. The year was 2018, as Manchester United took BSC Young Boys at Old Trafford.

Even though it was expected of United to grab all three points, the Red Devils struggled against the Swiss Super League team. However, Marouane Fellaini came to United’s rescue, as he netted the all-important goal in the 91st minute of the game. Mourinho’s relief and frustration were evident in the way he celebrated. The manager picked up a tray of bottles kept near the touchline and smashed them vigorously – a celebration fitting of the Special One.

The manager also received backlash and criticism from former United player Rio Ferdinand following the incident. He said, ‘All eyes on me guys’, explaining how it screamed for attention. United proceeded to edge past Valencia and Young Boys to progress to the Round of 16 that season. However, they fell against Sevilla 2-1 on aggregate.
