‘The Special One’ has been linked with a move away from club football for a long time running. The former Champions League and Premier League winner currently piles his trade at AS Roma in Serie A. Jose Mourinho has been linked with taking the reins at Brazil as head coach, with rumors dating back to January of 2023. The 60-year-old has dropped crucial information regarding his chances of taking the Brazil job.

The Portuguese has enjoyed great success in his first two seasons at the club. Mourinho led his team to a UEFA Conference League trophy and a UEFA Europa League final in the last two seasons. His side is currently 7th in the league and has 28 points in 18 games. It was earlier established that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will be taking charge of Brazil after his contract runs out with the Los Blancos. However, he recently signed a one-year extension with the club.

As the focus shifts back to Mourinho, he clarified his stance on the same.

No one has called me or my agent from Brazil to become the new head coach of the Seleçao.
Mourinho said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano

He blatantly put an end to all rumors surrounding the Brazil job as he remains focused on Roma in the league and Europa League.

Brazil didn't call me to become the new coach. I told my agent: don't speak to anyone as long as I'm AS Roma manager. I trust AS Roma owners 100%. I always informed them including when Portugal called me... and when Saudi club called me last summe.

Mourinho most recently managed a 2-1 victory over Cremonese in the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia.

Jose Mourinho set for Premier League return?

Jose Mourinho is no stranger to success in the Premier League. The Roma boss has been in charge of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur in England’s top flight over the years. He has lifted the Premier League 3 times in his career. As per the latest reports, the Portuguese has been tipped to take over Eddie Howe at Newcastle, given the latter is relieved of his duties this season.

Despite a spectacular top-four finish last season, Newcastle have struggled for form this time round. The Magpies have lost 7 of their last eight games in all competitions, with Howe’s position coming under pressure. According to journalist Dean Jones, Mourinho’s admiration for a certain Newcastle legend may be the element that brings him to the club.

It is known that Mourinho was a big admirer of Bobby Robson during his time at the club.

…It might just give him that little tug at the heartstrings. There are definitely reasons I could see Mourinho interested in this if he was to leave Roma.

Dean Jones wrote on Mourinho’s potential return to Premier League

He also said how Mourinho leading Newcastle to that elusive trophy and dedicating it to Bobby Robson would be a perfect tribute. Newcastle are currently 9th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from the Champions League as well as the Carabao Cup.
