Jose Mourinho eyes Chelsea defender as Renato Sanches puts out strong message after Napoli snub

It was only weeks ago that Jose Mourinho took a sly dig at Pep Guardiola for their freedom to experiment and spend in the transfer market. He outlined his side’s struggles in signing new players and their financial constraints to do so. However, Roma may have zeroed down on their primary defensive target as Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla are sidelined with injuries.

Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah appears to be at the top of Mourinho’s wishlist, and given his severe lack of game time, Roma could end up signing the player. On the other hand, Roma midfielder Renato Sanches, who is on loan from Bayern Munich, had a week to forget with Mourinho. The Portuguese was subbed off just 18 minutes after coming on against Bologna. To make things worse, he failed to even make the bench against Napoli.

Following the incident, Sanches has taken away all mention of AS Roma from his bio on Instagram. He has also removed his profile picture from his account but has chosen to keep pictures of him playing for AS Roma. The 26-year-old has ‘failed’ to break into the Roma starting XI, and seems all the more likely to leave the Italian club at the end of his loan deal. Roma now take on Juventus on the 30th of December.
