Roma Manager, José Mourinho has assured the club owners they will know first in case he opens talks with another club. Mourinho spoke on Wednesday night following Roma’s defeat against Sevilla in the Europa Cup final. Sevilla secured a record seventh Europa League title after beating Roma 4-1 in a dramatic penalty shootout at Puskas Arena in Budapest.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager also revealed he would be going on holiday on Monday. “My future? I will go on holiday on Monday. We will speak. I told the owners that I’ll let them know first in case I will open talks with another club. I told the club when Portugal called me in December for the NT job… as of now, no other clubs called me,” Mourinho said.

Jose Mourinho has lost a European final for the first time in his career. His AS Roma were good enough to manage a draw against Sevilla in normal and extra times of the Europa League final but weren’t good and lucky enough in the penalty shootout. The Special One appeared to throw his runners-up medal into the crowd before making a swift exit as his players collected their own prizes.

Jose Mourinho furiously confronted referee Anthony Taylor in the car park following Roma’s Europa League final defeat to Sevilla after saying the official “seemed Spanish”. Sevilla won on penalties to condemn Mourinho to his first defeat in a European final after an ill-tempered match which saw British referee Taylor dishing out 14 yellow cards, the most ever in a Europa League game, and playing almost 30 minutes of stoppage time in total.

“It was an intense, vibrant game with a referee who seemed Spanish. It was yellow, yellow, yellow all the time,” Mourinho said. After the game Mourinho was filmed directing a string of expletives toward the officials in the car park, labeling their performance a disgrace. UEFA is waiting on the referee’s match report before deciding whether to take any action against Mourinho.

The defeat meant Roma failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League and prompted questions about whether the 60-year-old would remain in the Italian capital, having been linked with Paris St Germain. PSG have shown tentative early interest in Mourinho becoming their next manager. The French champions will assess their options at the end of the season, with current head coach Christophe Galtier out of contract in 2024.
