Enraged Jose Mourinho has vowed to sell an “unprofessional” AS Roma player, who “betrayed” his teammates, in January
Jose Mourinho angry on one of the AS Roma players
In what was among his harshest press conferences to date, AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho informed one of his Roma players to exit the team for having an “unprofessional attitude.” The one-time Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid manager, who has taken a more measured attitude to the media in recent years, was agitated after his side dropped to Sassuolo on Wednesday.
During his post-game press conference, AS Roma manager Mourinho expressed overall satisfaction with the performance of his team. However, the Portuguese were unconditional in his criticism of one player, whom he would not name, calling him “unprofessional” and announcing that he would be transferred during the upcoming transfer window.
“It was a team that wanted to win against a tough opponent, I am sorry that the efforts of the team were betrayed by the attitude of one unprofessional player,” said Mourinho. The 15 out of 16 Roma players who were on the field performed admirably, according to the manager.
“ I liked the attitude of 15 of them. The other player, I won’t say who it is, I didn’t like it and I said so. He betrayed everyone else’s effort. In January, he needs to find himself another club.”
What happened in the match?
On Wednesday night in Serie A, AS Roma and Sassuolo drew 1-1. Tammy Abraham, who has been having trouble scoring lately, gave Mourinho’s team the lead with a smooth second-half header, however, they were unable to grip on to win as Andrea Pinamonti scored the equalizer for the hosts in the 85th minute.
The outcome places Roma in sixth place in the standings going into their weekend contest against Torino at the Studio Olimpico, which will be their final game before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
