“Never had a problem with my coach before”- When Paul Pogba’s relationship with Jose Mourinho was ruined because of a trip to Miami

Paul Pogba may have been dissatisfied with Man United the previous summer when they handed him a significant sum of ‘nothing’ in exchange for a £300,000-a-week deal, but it isn’t the first time he has shown dissatisfaction at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s connection with the midfielder entirely fell out when he was in command of the squad due to a series of disagreements between the two. Pogba was famously put on the bench in the ex-Chelsea coach’s last game, a defeat to Liverpool, because the manager didn’t think he was capable of changing the game.

While it was the epilogue of their romance, they had a falling out previously, when the World Champion was wounded and rehabbing in Miami.

“It all started when I got hurt.” On his new Amazon Prime Video documentary series Pogmentary, the 29-year-old claims, “I stated I was going to Miami to do therapy.”

“A photographer snapped a picture of me with Zulay [Pogba’s wife].” Jose forwarded the photo to Mino [Raiola]. That did not sit well with me. When we’re working like [crap], he says he’s on vacation. I asked Mourinho whether he was serious. I’ve been hurt. Here, I train three times a day. Do you have any idea who I am? I’d never had a problem with my coach before.”

While this was the first time Pogba had difficulty with his rehab outside of Manchester, it was far from the last, with Ralf Rangnick experiencing similar issues. When the German took over in December, the ex-Juventus midfielder was injured and away from the club, this time in Dubai, attempting to heal.

“My prior clubs were always striving to make sure the therapy should take place at the club itself,” Rangnick added. “As far as I can tell, the medical department is excellent, with a variety of ways to rehabilitation. “I don’t want players to go to rehab abroad or anyplace else, but Paul’s choice was made before I arrived.”

At the time, the interim manager also stated that he would not try to convince Pogba to stay at the club, despite the fact that his contract was just six months away from terminating.

There was clearly no one at Old Trafford who could persuade the player to alter his mind, as he left at the end of the season for the second time. Now it appears he will come back to Turin to sign for Juventus once again; but, don’t expect him to return to United for the third time…
