The venues for each game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup are announced. There were 16 host cities, which were in the countries of The United States of America, Mexico, and Canada. Along with that, they announced that the finals were going to be held in the MetLife Stadium in Jersey City.

The MetLife Stadium is the home to the New York Giants and New York Jets in the National Football League. It also hosts other various events like concerts, NASCAR, College American football, and football.

The MetLife Stadium recently held the pre-season fixture between Manchester United and Arsenal in July 2023. It has also held many friendlies in the past. The stadium originally designed for American Football, can be converted into a football stadium using retractable seating to fit a FIFA-sanctioned field.

Moreover, with the stadium being just eight kilometers away from the city of New York, FIFA decided to name the stadium “New York New Jersey Stadium” instead of its usual name. With this move, many fans from the Big Apple have claimed their city would be hosting the final.

But a journalist, Graham Ruthven, put up a meme to keep those fans quiet. It was picked up from David Beckham’s documentary, using the scene where Beckham confronted his wife Victoria for claiming she was born in a “working class” family.

Meanwhile, in the viral meme, Victoria Beckham represented the New Yorkers who were forced to admit the final will be in New Jersey.

Fans find humor as New Yorkers and New Jersey residents debate on who is the actual host

Most Americans saw the humor in the tweet, as the people of the two cities are known rivals in sports. Some New Yorkers claimed their cities should be considered as hosts due to the proximity of the cities, but the residents of New Jersey believe their city should be considered.

But it is the ‘imperfect’ use of the famous David Beckham, Victoria, meme that has caught the internet gasping.

Here are some of the fans’ reactions:

The New York New Jersey Stadium will be hosting five group stage matches, one Round of 32 match, one Round of 16 match, and the World Cup final. The stadium has a permanent turf pitch, but FIFA has confirmed that the pitches will be turned into grass pitches.
