Real Madrid locked horns with Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday. In a high-octane clash, either side went all-in for the three points. However, the five-goal thriller ended in favor of the visitors. The Los Blancos were not at their 100%. However, moments of brilliance ensured that Real Madrid maintained their winning streak. At the heart of the win was Jude Bellingham.
The 20-year-old made headlines yet again after a wonderful goal in the first half. After going down in the 19th minute, a Vinicius Jr. strike followed by a Bellingham strike gave Real Madrid the lead. Bellingham picked up the ball from the center circle, receiving it from Eduardo Camavinga. The player left a charging Frank Anguissa in the dust.
A deft touch took the ball past a Leo Ostigard tackle. Jude quickly dispatched his shot before a sliding Natan managed to put in a block. The ball neatly fell into the net as Alex Meret looked on helplessly. “The boy wonder,” proclaimed the commentator as Jude Bellingham exhibited his trademark celebration in the Diego Maradona Stadium.
Real Madrid triumph over Napoli in 5-goal thriller
Carlo Ancelotti’s return to his former club saw the Gli Azzurri fall 2-3. Five goals were scored in a fixture, which was not expected by many. After initial pressure from Real Madrid, Napoli took the early lead. Leo Ostigard headed past Federico Valverde after confusion in the box. After going 1-0 up at 19 minutes, Vinicius Jr. brought his team level. The Brazilian punished a misplaced pass by Di Lorenzo.
Vinicius Jr. deftly slotted the ball past Meret into the far corner. Seven minutes later, Bellingham flew past the Napoli defense before placing it to the far right of the keeper. Napoli regained parity in the second half after Dani Carvajal was penalized for a handball inside the area. Piotr Zielinski blasted his penalty past Kepa. His shot hit the inside of the post and slammed into the sidenetting.
As Napoli strengthened their grip on the game, Fede Valverde scored a belter in the 78th minute. After a loose ball fell at his feet, his thunderous strike hit the post before bouncing off of Meret and into the back of the net. The strike was awarded as an own goal. The win places RMA comfortably in first, with 6 points. Napoli are 2nd with 3 points.
