Real Madrid beat Union Berlin 2-3 on the road to complete a perfect group stage in the Champions League. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his thoughts after the game, with Jude Bellingham receiving both praise and ‘criticism’ from the boss. The Madrid starlet picked up an ‘unnecessary’ yellow card in the first half, much to the distaste of the Italian.
Real Madrid secured a perfect UEFA Champions League group stage campaign only for the third time in their history. A brace from Joselu and a late winner by Dani Ceballos ensured that the Los Blancos topped Group C on a high. Carlo Ancelotti’s honest analysis of Bellingham’s yellow has ‘surprised’ fans to say the least.
He got a stupid yellow card.
He also clarified that Toni Kroos was subbed in for Federico Valverde because;
He was a bit tired and did not want to give him too many minutes.
Real Madrid secure top spot in Group C with 3-2 win
The 14-time Champions began the game on the front foot, as Union Berlin were pushed back well into their own half. Jude Bellingham and co. were denied multiple goalscoring opportunities in the first half as Frederik Rønnow stood firm in between the sticks for the home side. Much to the surprise of Real Madrid, Kevin Volland gave the hosts the lead against the flow of play.
Real responded through Joselu, whose two headers in 10 minutes tilted the game in Madrid’s favor. However, Berlin had plans to spoil the party. Substitute Alex Král‘s grounded strike from outside the box missed every player including Real Madrid goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, tying things up. Dani Ceballos became Real Madrid’s saviour, when his deflected shot gave the visitors the lead once again, with a minute on the clock.
After picking up a yellow card against Union Berlin, Jude Bellingham risks suspension in the Round of 16. The player has to ensure that he does not pick up a yellow card in the first leg. Otherwise, he will pick up a one-match-ban, thereby missing the second leg. Real Madrid will now face Villarreal in La Liga before the Champions League draw for the RO16 happens on 18th December.
