Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp openly criticized the lackluster atmosphere at Anfield ahead of the Reds’ pivotal clash against league leaders Arsenal. He expressed disappointment with the subdued energy from the fans during Liverpool’s recent matches against Manchester United and West Ham.

Anfield, where Liverpool plays, is a tough place for opposing teams because of strong support from home fans. Klopp’s team hasn’t lost at home since February 2023 when Real Madrid beat them. However, Klopp was disappointed with the quiet atmosphere in the recent match against Manchester United. Despite a big crowd of 57,000, the fans weren’t as loud as usual in supporting the team. It even received massive criticism from former players turned pundits, who hailed the Merseyside ground themselves.

The German manager was disappointed with home fans and suggested they give their tickets to others if not in the right spirit. Klopp urged more noise and support for the crucial game against Arsenal. Ex-United defender Gary Neville called the Anfield atmosphere during their match the ‘poorest’ in 70 years, blaming the team’s overconfidence for the subdued response.

In the first half, when the boys played exceptionally, I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me. I asked people: 'What do they want?' We changed a lot of things and we dominated West Ham like crazy and missed chances. If I was in the stands, I would be on my toes, 1,000%. If it is too much football in December, if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else.

Jurgen Klopp and Gary Neville’s remarks arrive despite Anfield’s expanded capacity from the Anfield Road Stand. Even Liverpool’s 5-1 win against West Ham in the Carabao Cup failed to stir much excitement among the attending fans at Anfield.

Liverpool hammer West Ham 5-1 to proceed into the semi-finals of the EFL Cup

The Reds secured a resounding 5-1 victory against West Ham United in a crucial quarter-final match of the Carabao Cup, propelling them into the semi-finals where they are set to take on Fulham. Liverpool, who have lifted the most number of Carabao Cup titles, will aim to win the coveted title for the record 10th time.

In a one-sided encounter dominated by the Reds, midfielder Curtis Jones scored twice to take Liverpool ahead of their London rivals. Dominik Szoboszlai scored a screamer, followed by goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, solidifying the 2022 champions’ spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Although Jarrod Bowen grabbed a late consolation in the 77th minute of the match to deny the Reds a clean sheet. Liverpool’s commanding scoreline not only puts them in a favorable position to vie for the cup but also serves as good preparation for their upcoming Premier League clash against table-toppers Arsenal this weekend.
