Julian Nagelsmann‘s relationship with a journalist at a German newspaper was a ‘huge problem’ at Bayern Munich, former Bayern and German defender Markus Babbel claims. Nagelsmann was sacked as Bayern Munich’s manager recently as the team had reportedly gone backwards in the league and enough player development was not being seen by the higher authorities.
Nagelsmann was dating BILD newspaper journalist Lena Wurzenberger for most of his tenure at Bayern. The two broke up and Wurzenburger left the newspaper organization after Nagelsmann’s sacking.
Speaking about the issue of the manager’s girlfriend within the team, Markus Babbel stated: “I know that Nagelsmann’s relationship with a BILD reporter was a huge topic in the dressing room. It didn’t go down well at all that he was with her. His girlfriend was therefore a big problem for Bayern.” He further went on to emphasize the fact that it brought down the trust in the manager: “There was a lack of trust because some players just weren’t able to communicate what they were thinking anymore. Because they were afraid that everything would end up in the newspaper.”
Bayern Munich were only one point off the top of the table in the Bundesliga and were in the quarterfinals of the Champions League at the time of Nagelsmann’s sacking. In the wake of the sacking, Thomas Tuchel was appointed to fill the shoes of the 35-year-old.

What’s next for Julian Nagelsmann?
Julian Nagelsmann being relieved of his duties came as a shock to everyone considering the German was doing fairly well with the team. Now, multiple clubs in Europe are queuing up to pursue the young manager and give him a contract.
Clubs such as Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and PSG are touted to be the best potential suitors for the manager. Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sack Carlo Ancelotti at end of the season and Nagelsmann could fit right in.
As for Spurs, Antonio Conte’s recent comments on the club may eventually lead to his sacking. PSG’s Christopher Galtier is also in line to be replaced due to a poor form outside of the league. It will be interesting to see who wins the race to acquire the German’s services.
