Jurgen Klopp has surpassed Sir Alex Ferguson’s unique record. He has now surpassed all-time money spent by Sir Alex during his tenure in the Premier League. Klopp passed this record with the acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool.
Sir Alex Ferguson spent £570.4 million during his nearly 27-year stint in charge of Manchester United and topped the list by his retirement in 2013. Klopp has passed this figure and now has spent £613 million revamping his squad. As he searches for another midfielder, he is expected to add to it this summer.
However, these two are not at the top of the spending table. Jose Mourinho occupies that spot. The Portuguese has spent a lot across his stints at Chelsea, United, and Tottenham Hotspurs. The Special One spent a mammoth £1.14 billion across his clubs.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s £570.4 million seems like a measly amount when spread across 27 years. This shows the inflation in the transfer valuation of players. With clubs now frequently spending hundreds of millions on one player, it won’t be surprising if Sir Alex Ferguson loses his spot soon in the top 10 spending managers of the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp breaks into the top four of Premier League’s biggest spenders, Mourinho leads the pack
Jose Mourinho has spent the most on Premier League player transfers. The Portuguese have spent a whopping £1.14 billion in the Premier League. He is followed by Pep Guardiola in the number two, with £1.05 billion.
These two are the only managers to cross a billion mark. The top 3 were completed by Arsene Wenger, who spent £762.3 million while managing Arsenal. With recent acquisitions, Jurgen Klopp has climbed to number four on the list with £613 million.
The rest of the list goes like this- at fifth stands- Brendan Rodgers, with £591.6 million. Number six goes to Sir Alex Ferguson with £570.4 million. He is followed by Manuel Pellegrini, who spent £526.5 million in seventh. Mark Hughes has spent £513.5 million, occupying the eighth spot. At number nine is Antonio Conte, spending £511.2 million. The list is completed by Eddie Howe’s £481.7 million at the 10th spot.
