On 4th February, Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Emirates. The game wasn’t a close one, as the Gunners dominated the entire match with Liverpool managing only one shot on target. While the game was important for the title race, many people complained about the way the Gunners celebrated.

It started with Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard clicking pictures of the club photographer, which made rival fans and Jamie Carragher unhappy. Then Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, followed that with fist pumps, imitating Jurgen Klopp. Many Liverpool and rival fans were not happy with the mimicry, but Klopp himself doesn’t care about it.

In the press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, the German manager was asked about his views on the way Arteta and his team celebrated the win. Klopp’s X-rated reply made it clear that he was not too hung up about the way they celebrated.

I heard the discussions that Mikel over-celebrated the win against us. That definitely did not come from me. You do what you do for yourself and your people and what the outside world thinks about it, I couldn’t give a s***, to be honest. And you can write that exactly like that. You can make of my celebrations what you want. I didn’t invent fist-pumps and I don’t have the copyright on it and I don’t want it. This is for us and nobody else. Who likes it, likes it, and who doesn’t like it, doesn’t like it.

Just a few days after Arsenal’s win against Liverpool, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones claimed Arsenal “stole their stuff” by celebrating. He claimed that if Arsenal is copying them, then they are on the right path.

I want to win on Sunday but not for me or my trophy cabinet. It is for the boys, for the club and for the people. That is much more important and everything will go on.
