Karim Benzema admits needing help when quizzed about not scoring goals since December: “I can’t win games alone”

Karim Benzema shocked the football world when he left Real Madrid for Saudi club Al-Ittihad. After spending 14 years at the club, he decided to move on and shifted to Saudi Arabia like many other European stars. 

Months later, Al-Ittihad sit 4th in the Saudi Pro League with 47 points. They are 5 points away from AFC Champions League qualification and 30 points away from the top. Along with that, star signing Karim Benzema is on a three-month goal drought. He has also been accused of trying to move away from the club and intentionally missing training sessions.

Last scoring on 15th December, 2023, against El Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup, he has gone three months without a single goal. In those three months he has played eight matches, failing to put the ball in the net even once. 

Benzema was interviewed by Action by Waleed, a popular journalist. In the interview, when he was asked about his poor form, the former Ballon D’or winner blamed his teammates, claiming it wasn’t Real Madrid. 

It’s because it’s not the same game, it’s not the same players, I need to be helped. I need help on the pitch. I can’t win games alone. I need a lot of things.

Karim Benzema’s time at Saudi Arabia 

After managing to win only one trophy in the 2022/23 season, Karim Benzema decided to move to Al-Ittihad. It was rumored that he was offered €100 million for a year and was to stay at the club till 2025. In his first few games, he was enjoying his time. In his first 15 league games, he had 9 goals, which included a hat-trick.

The problems began during the winter break of the season. It was rumored that he was trying to force a move away from the club.

He also missed a few training sessions as he claimed he was stuck in Mauritius due to a cyclone. Benzema finally spoke out about the rumors, claiming that all the news were false. 

Since then, there have been many reports of a falling out between him and the club. He had also stormed out from a training session and it seems he is looking for a move away from the club once again.
